Like all primary care clinicians, Dr Bensadon is a generalist. This means that unlike specialists (cardiologists, gastroenterologists), his training and experience are not condition-specific. Rather, BMP&G helps optimize coping, management, & quality of life across clinical conditions—medical, psychological, or both. Dr. Bensadon is available to see adult patients and families of all ages & has specialized expertise in aging (geriatrics & gerontology). In some cases Dr. Bensadon may refer you to a specialist, but whatever your concern, he can likely help. BMP&G offers 3 types of service: psychological services, consultation, and coaching. Each is similar but slightly different. If you are uncertain which service is best for you, please contact us.

Psychological Services
Health-related. Traditional, depth-oriented services that begin with a diagnostic evaluation (sometimes called an “intake”) followed by psychotherapeutic treatment. Frequency/duration varies based on individual discussion between you and Dr. Bensadon. Services include diagnostic information, are considered clinical, and may be reimbursable by health insurance.  Many who choose this service are seeking a deep, non-judgmental, emotionally intimate personal connection and safe space to address and explore issues they generally do not discuss  elsewhere, including with other doctors.

Coaching
May or may not be health-related. Generally less intensive and depth-oriented than psychological services but informed/guided by similar principles. Certification programs do exist but because coaching does not require a clinical license many people with varying professional and academic credentials are able to label and market themselves as a “coach.” Services do not include diagnostic information and are not considered clinical thus they are not reimbursable by health insurance.  Many who choose this service are seeking specific behavioral strategies, techniques, information, and education.

Consultation
May or may not be health-related. Often involves discussion of personal goals of care, related decision making, &/or a request from Dr. Bensadon for a second opinion. Dr. Bensadon is particularly well-suited to assist you in navigating the medical system given his extensive experience integrating psychological insight and behavioral health expertise from within it. Services generally do not include new diagnostic information from Dr. Bensadon though he may discuss diagnostic impressions with you. Services are educational/informational in nature and are not considered clinical thus they are not reimbursable by health insurance. Many who choose this service do so specifically after several physician/advance practice provider visits that they felt were “too medical.”
